GETTING STARTED
Q. I just started my game; which character should I use first?

A.
In UNLIMITED Saga, you can choose from seven different protagonists. No matter who you start with, you always have the option of progressing through a character’s story all the way through or you can save your game with one character and begin a new quest with a different character.

Q. Okay, I finally selected my character. Where do I go first?

A. Each character begins the game in a town. Virtually every town in UNLIMITED Saga has an Inn or Lodge. Inns are the best starting points because of the many options that are available to the player. Shopping lets you buy, sell, and trade items while the Equipment option enables you to change your character’s weapons, armor and accessories. Most of the time you’ll have the opportunity to embark on a scenario through the Adventure option. Gathering Information at an Inn can open up additional adventures or may net you some new friends to join you on your journeys.

Q. What is Stand-By?

A.
Stand-By is an option that allows you to recover your character’s HP during quests. On the Adventure screen, you can choose the Stand-By option and manually recover HP by pressing down on the R3 button or the L3 button of the controller. This allows your entire party to recover HP. Using this function will consume a single turn. The amount of HP you can recovery varies based on each character’s HP recovery ability. Level A is the highest recovery ability.
Q. How do I save my game? What’s the System file for and how do I use it?

A.
Saving a game is easy! From the Adventure screen, just choose the last option in the menu. After saving, you’re taken to the main menu where you’re given the option of selecting another character to play with. From a Town, just go to an Inn and select the option near the bottom of the menu. For the System file, one is created on your memory card soon after starting up the game. The System file stores all the character and game information – you’ll only need one System file to store all your character information.

HOW TO BATTLE

Q. How do I restore my character’s HP?

A. You can restore HP (Hit Points) one of three ways: 1) during a battle, you can gradually restore HP by allowing your character to wait and do nothing for a turn, 2) in the quest screen, you can choose to Stand By and manually recover HP by pressing down on the R3 or L3 buttons, and 3) completely restore your HP by visiting a town. All methods of restoring HP (except during battles) restores the HP of your entire party, not just the selected character.

Q. How do I restore my character’s LP?

A. LP (Life Points) can only be restored if you return to a town after a scenario. Each character has a set number of LP that is determined at the beginning of the game. If a character's LP becomes 0, your character is considered knocked out. You will not be able to recover and use that character until you return to a town. If your main character's LP becomes 0, the game is over. In addition, you cannot recover a character while proceeding through a scenario. A character will automatically recover its HP and LP after entering a town.

Q. What’s the difference between GO and HOLD during battle?

A. If you want to perform a combo attack, use HOLD. If you want to perform a single attack, use GO. The battle reel begins to spin after you’ve chosen commands for your party members. Depending on how you stop the reel, your attack will vary. If you stop the reel by choosing GO, your character will immediately perform a single attack. If you choose HOLD, you can perform combo attacks, but occasionally this can be interrupted by an enemy attack. The advantage of choosing GO to attack is that you can perform a higher level attack depending on your character’s skill level. You can defeat tougher enemies a lot quicker by choosing higher level single attacks. The disadvantage is that choosing a higher level skill on the spinning battle reel requires timing and accuracy. There’s more risk involved as it will be difficult to choose the exact skill you want to perform when combos are formed. There’s also the possibility that enemies will interrupt your attack. If you are going to target a single enemy choose HOLD. By holding each character’s skill, it generates a combo attack also known as an allied combo. The more skills combined, the stronger your combo attack will be. Combos can be very powerful attacks for boss battles, but use caution as enemies are likely to interrupt combo attacks making your resulting attacks less effective.

Q. I am losing a battle. Is there any way I can escape from it?

A. It is impossible to run from a battle. Once you begin a battle, you can only defeat your enemy or be defeated. Since this is the case, it’s especially important to keep an eye on your main character’s LP because once it reaches 0 your game will be over. Other than your main character, it is possible to rescue one of your knocked out party members, by removing that party member from battle using the Rescue option. This will improve your battle because it will reduce the number of empty commands as a result of your fallen party member. The Rescue option can also be used to recover from certain status effects on a party member. Sometimes the Rescue option tends to fail if a lightweight character tries to rescue a heavier character.

FIELD NAVIGATION
Q. Okay, I’m on the map; how do I move around?

A. On the World Map or when in a Town or Village, simply move the directional buttons to select a location. When your character is on the Adventure Screen, use either the left analog stick or the right analog stick to move your character in eight different directions. Choose a direction and hold the position for about a second; your character will jump to the new location on the screen.

Q. What does the red text mean?

A. During the Adventure Screen, as you move from location to location, you will notice that the name of a location may be either blue, yellow, or red in color. If the location name is in blue text, then moving to that spot means that it’s free of any dangers, such as a monster or trap. If the location name is in yellow text, you might want to take caution since a monster may be nearby. If the name is in red text, then danger is imminent and your party should be prepared for the worse!

Q. How do I pick up herbs and other items?

A. You will come across various items in your quests but you will need to manually pick them up through the menu options. To keep an item you need to pick it up at the time it appears on your screen. Use your directional pad and select the item from the left side of the Adventure screen. Hit the action button to confirm your selection.
Q. How do I open treasure chests?

A. You can perform these actions by selecting the Skill option from the menu and hitting the action button. Select the Skill option from the left side of the Adventure menu screen using the directional pad then select either stairs, ladder, switch, or treasure chest found at the upper left of the screen.

CUSTOMIZING
Q. I just finished a scenario; is there a way for me to set my Growth Panel?

A. There is no one way to set the skills on your Growth Panel. You can customize it any way you like plus you can receive bonuses depending on how a skill panel is placed. Bonus points will be added if the same kind of skill panel is placed in one of the following three configurations (if all the skills or arts are the same level you can receive an even greater bonus):
Joint - a pair of two skill panels are adjacent, including the center panel
Line - three skill panels line up by crossing the center regardless of the direction
Triangle - three skill panels are placed at an interval of one panel, except the center one.

Q. What do the colored tiles mean?

A. The colored panels on both the Growth Panel and the battle Reel indicate the skill level of an ability. There are five skill levels, with the breakdown as follows:
Green – Level 1 (weakest)
Blue – Level 2
Pink – Level 3
Orange – Level 4
Yellow – Level 5 (strongest)

Q. I just learned a skill, but I'm unable to select this command from the battle Reel.

A. Although you’ve mastered a skill, it is impossible to select it instantly from the Reel. It takes a time for a skill to show up on your Reel. Whenever you master a new skill, the color of the icon representing the skill will change on the battle Reel. Green icons represent your basic skills. Different colored icons on your reel shows that you’ve already mastered some skills.
Q. Sometimes my weapon breaks or I’m unable to use it.

A. Each weapon has characteristics that show its offensive power and durability. Your weapon’s durability reduces each time you use the weapon to attack. If durability reaches 0, your weapon will break and become almost worthless. Before you begin a scenario, it is a good idea to keep in mind a few things to assure that your weapon will have enough durability. Stock up on weapons by purchasing them at a shop. Minimize the number of weapon attacks used during battle, especially against weaker enemies when melee attacks will work just as well.

TOWN OPTIONS

Q. What do I do in town?

A. You have many options in a Town. The first destination should be an inn or lodge where you can shop for items, equip your party, gather information, and go on adventures. Depending on the town and the character, you can also find blacksmiths, where you can make and repair weapons and accessories from various materials. If you’re playing as Ventus, you can find additional jobs at Carrier Guilds.

Q. How do I get more people in my party?

A. Characters will join your party after certain events in a storyline, or when you gather information at an inn or other shops. Explore all your options when you’re visiting a town or village to find more willing adventurers.
Q. What can you do at a Blacksmith?

A. You can create better weapons, armor, and items at a Blacksmith by synthesizing various items. Depending on the materials used, you may be able to acquire new abilities by synthesizing weapons. Since your weapon becomes useless when its durability reaches 0, it’s a good idea to stop at a Blacksmith every once in a while to synthesize weapons that are low in durability.
Q. Do items sold in a town change in value?

A. Items sold in town change in value based on your character’s Market Rank. The game features a statistic called Market Rank, which increases after repeatedly selling and buying items. Any time your Market Rank increases, you should return to previously visited towns to purchase items that may not have been made available to you before at an Inn. Considering this, you can buy as many items as possible and use them as materials for synthesizing.
